The New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers meet in game two of their three game set in MLB action from Comerica Park on Wednesday.

The New York Yankees will look to bounce back after being taken down in Tuesday’s series opener by a final score of 12-11. Brett Gardner went 2 for 5 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs while Edwin Encarnacion, Didi Gregorius and Tyler Wade each had two RBIs with Encarnacion homering, Gregorius belting a pair of solo home runs and Wade adding a triple. Gleyber Torres added a solo home run and Mike Ford chipped in an RBI to round out the Yankee offense in the win while Gio Urshela had a double and Clint Frazier added a base hit to finish things off for the Yankees. Chance Adams took the loss in relief, falling to 1-1 on the year as the Yankees used eight relievers in the losing effort. CC Sabathia will start game two and is 5-8 with a 4.93 ERA and 96 strikeouts this season. In his career, Sabathia is 21-14 with a 4.16 ERA and 204 strikeouts against Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers will look to build off of their shocking upset in game one with another strong performance here. Jeimer Candelario went 3 for 5 with three RBIs while Miguel Cabrera, Grayson Greiner and Christin Stewart each had two RBIs with Greiner going 3 for 5 with a double while Stewart went 2 for 3 with a home run. Harold Castro, Travis Demeritte and Jordy Mercer each had an RBI to finish off Detroit’s offense while Victor Reyes added a base hit to finish off the Tigers’ offense in victory. Edwin Jackson allowed six runs on six hits in two innings in the start, not factoring in the decision, while Joe Jimenez got the win to improve to 4-7 on the year. Matt Boyd will start game two and is 8-10 with a 4.57 ERA and 225 strikeouts this season. In his career, Boyd is 1-2 with a 5.57 ERA and 24 strikeouts against the Yankees.

New York is 0-5 in Sabathia’s last 5 starts and 0-6 in Sabathia’s last 6 road starts while the over is 18-4-1 in their last 23 games against the AL Central. Detroit is 1-11 in Boyd’s last 12 starts against a team with a winning record, 5-16 in Boyd’s last 21 starts and 10-43 in their last 53 home games while the over is 12-5-1 in their last 18 games overall. The over is 7-1-1 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams in Detroit and 5-1-1 in Sabathia’s last 7 road starts against Detroit.

I’m not laying this kind of juice with New York, as Sabathia hasn’t been very good as of late with New York losing each of his last five starts while allowing 14 runs, 13 earned, across 12.1 innings in his last three starts on the road. On the other hand, I’m not trying to get behind Detroit after one win, as the Tigers are still the Tigers and in reality are a 100-loss team that capitalized on poor pitching in the opener. Boyd’s also allowed 17 runs, 16 earned, in 14 innings across his last three starts at home. Which is why I’m siding with the over here. The pitching matchup is suspect to say the least and I think this game should easily surpass double digits like Tuesday’s opener did.
